SPECIAL NEEDS CLASS TEACHING

I think that an adult's perception of a teachers ability must come second place to that of the pupil's own view of the teacher. Scott has most enjoyed his stay with Edwina, his enjoyment of being in her class is strikingly clear to us at home. Scott would not be enjoying himself and learning new things unless he was in a supportive and comfortable environment. When Scott leaves school he has stated that he wishes to either be a police man or a teacher like Edwina. Clearly for Scott to think this, Edwina has been a super hero role model and he has looked up to her for guidance and support. When Scott comes homes he will ‘teach’ us what he has learnt in school, adopting the style of Edwina. As an example he has taught us sign language and songs for the school play. Again, Scott would not be doing this unless he was absolutely comfortable in class and he has demonstrated that he has learnt bucket loads of new things. Scott’s development in Edwina’s class over the years he has spent with her I think speaks for itself and should she wish to use this as evidence/reference for future employment then she deserves to have evidence to validate what an awesome teacher she has been at the Chalet school. All the very best to her in the future.

Kind Regards

Edwina has always been very keen for the children to achieve their very best in all they do in order to give them the best start for the future.  Lessons are taught with a strong element of fun and the children respond well to this approach, forgetting they are doing “school work”.  Edwina has a very good understanding of Dyslexia, having undertaken intensive training on this and consequently pupils have thrived with her support and become confident readers, which is brilliant!

Edwina has worked closely with other professionals such as educational psychologists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, community nurses, psychiatrists and child psychologists.  For the children to achieve their best it is so important that we work together as a team and Edwina recognizes this.

The same can be said with regard to working with parents, who know their child inside out and who have their child in their care for so much more time than we do.  Edwina has built strong relationships with parents of the children in her class.

Edwina’s personal qualities are that she is loyal, committed, reliable, enthusiastic, honest and determined that the children in her care will achieve their very best.

It was lovely to meet you and hear your truly beautiful harp playing - it really did add to the atmosphere and lots of people that spoke to us were saying how nice it was to hear you playing.

PIANO

All three of our sons have been taught piano by Edwina, over a period spanning more than fifteen years. All three flourished under Edwina's tuition, and developed a love for music which they have to this day. The fact that all continued studying whilst going through the moody teenage years is testimony to Edwina keeping their interest going, and ensuring the lessons never became a chore for them.
Our first son went to two other teachers for brief periods before we found Edwina. There are some very indifferent teachers available: Edwina is not one of them.

"Edwina Astle has taught my teenage son Ben the piano for the past three years.
He started as a complete beginner and has now covered the Grade 3 ABRSM exam syllabus and can read music comfortably from a piano score.
He has found her to be a very thorough, engaging and supportive teacher and he has made steady progress even though he has not been able to practice particularly regularly.
His ability to now read music in both the treble and bass clefs will undoubtedly be useful when he starts his degree course reading Popular Music this September.
We are very grateful for all her encouragement and preparation in his piano studies.

Edwina is an excellent teacher and I thoroughly enjoyed my piano lessons with her. I was learning how to play the piano for the first time and she was very patient with me. She helped create an atmosphere of fun but also pushed me to perform at my best so each song was played as it should be played. She is a highly experienced piano player and I would thoroughly recommend her to anyone.
